Aditya L1 Mission
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch its first mission dedicated to studying the Sun, called Aditya L1. The spacecraft is schedule to launched on September 2, 2023, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India.
Aditya L1 will place in a halo orbit around the Sun-Earth Lagrange point 1 (L1), which is located about 1.5 million kilometers from Earth. This orbit will allow Aditya L1 to continuously observe the Sun without any occultation from Earth.
The spacecraft will equip with seven scientific payloads to study various aspects of the Sun’s atmosphere, including:
- The solar corona and its heating mechanism
- Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and flares
- The solar wind and its interaction with Earth’s magnetosphere
- The solar magnetic field
- The solar interior
